ROSAN SCHERES

Historic Interiors Reimagined

Creating new atmospheres
within historic walls.

Historic buildings and their interiors ask to be understood before they are changed. Therefore, we begin each project with careful study — of architectural cohesion, colour histories, and decorative traces left behind over time. From this foundation, a thoughtful interior vision gradually takes shape. Sometimes this means preserving and reconstructing; sometimes it means adding new, contemporary layers and furnishings. Whether in public or residential contexts, our aim remains the same: to create interiors that are layered with history while allowing them to live fully in the present.

ABOUT

Rosan Scheres is an interior designer specialising in heritage buildings. With a background in art history and the conservation of historic interiors, Rosan’s work is rooted in research and a deep understanding of architectural character and colour.

Years of architectural paint research - tracing successive colour schemes and material finishes across centuries - have shaped her sensitivity to colour and pattern, and to their role within monumental buildings. This experience has fostered a strong awareness of time layers: interiors within monuments are understood as layered compositions in which past and present coexist. No project is treated as purely historical or purely modern. There is always a dialogue between eras.

When a building enters a new phase, Rosan begins with close observation. Original structures and materials, spatial proportions, later alterations and traces of earlier decoration are carefully studied, allowing the building’s own story to inform the design language. From this foundation, new layers and furnishings can be introduced, balancing monumental gravity with warmth, tactility and a touch of personality. The result is an interior that feels fitting and settled rather than staged: coherent, characterful and quietly timeless.

The studio works on private residences as well as public and cultural buildings, always with the same intention: to create interiors that honour architectural integrity while allowing contemporary life to unfold naturally within them.
